Living with a lung condition

Respiratory disease, including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma and other respiratory conditions, are one of the CCG's key priorities and we are working to enhance services for our local people.

Patients diagnosed with a lung condition should ensure they are getting the right treatment in the right place, such as signing up for online services offered by your practice, pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation, flu and pneumonia vaccination along with details of any support networks.

Your GP/practice nurse will also be able to advise you.

Living with a lung condition doesn’t mean life has to stop but it will affect you in different ways. There are a number of ways to help you live with this condition and enjoy a happy and healthy life:

  • eating well: if you have a lung condition it is important to eat a balanced diet and maintain a healthy weight
  • regular exercise: when you have a lung condition it is important to be as active as you can and to exercise safely
  • singing: singing can help with lung function, breathlessness and mental health for people with a long- term lung condition
  • Breathe Easy Groups: local voluntary groups providing support, advice and information for people living with a lung condition and those who look after them
