Booking GP appointments and ordering repeat prescriptions has never been easier

An ever increasing number of people are embracing the digital revolution and using GP online services as an alternative to calling or visiting their GP practice.

Using GP online services in Tameside and Glossop is quick, easy and all information is secure.  It’s just like online banking you can look at parts of your GP records, order repeat prescriptions, book or cancel appointments on a computer, tablet or a smartphone, using a website or an app all from comfort of your own home anywhere, anytime – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you want to register for GP online services you will need to fill out a form at your GP practice and show two forms of ID one of which should have a photo (such as a UK passport or driving licence) and the other should have your address (such as a council tax bill).  If you don’t have photo ID or anything with your address on it, it doesn’t mean you will not be able to use online services, as practice staff may be able to help.

GP online services is free, it’s just another way to contact your GP practice.

Dr Kate Hebden, NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group Governing Body GP member for Primary Care, said: “The service is making a huge difference, not only to our patients who are using it to order repeat medications online, but also to GP surgery staff who work incredibly hard and are extremely busy throughout the day. It offers our patients the choice of how they can order a repeat prescription with online requests complimenting the more traditional methods.”

Ingrid Brindle, Chair for the Patient Participation Group at Thornley House Medical Centre, said:  “Because I can look at my records online, I have all the information I need, anywhere in the world all the time. I have several long term conditions and so, I can share the information with other health professionals to keep me safe.”
