Contact NHS 111 online first for urgent not life threatening conditions

Local people are being advised to visit NHS 111 online first if they have an urgent but not-life-threatening medical need.

This November, NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group is backing  NHS England and NHS Improvement’s next phase of the latest ‘Help Us, Help You’ campaign making sure people visit NHS 111 online first rather than going straight to A&E.

NHS 111 online will help people right away and, if needed, a healthcare professional will call them.

NHS 111 online makes it easier for patients to get the treatment they need in the right place. The service can also direct patients to urgent treatment centres/walk in centres, GPs, pharmacies, emergency dental services or other more appropriate local services.

NHS 111 online can also tell people where to get help for their symptoms, how to find general health information and advice, where to get emergency supplies of their prescribed medicines and how to get a repeat prescription.

If someone or their loved one has a life-threatening illness or injury then they should always dial 999.

Dr Asad Ali, co-chair at NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “NHS 111 online can make it easier for you to get the right advice and treatment with the most appropriate service for your health concern.

“You can access NHS 111 online by visiting the website 111.nhs.uk.”

“If you’re health concern is a life-threatening illnesses or injury you should continue to dial 999.”
