Patient participation is a unique partnership between patients, GPs and practice staff as a way to work together to improve healthcare services within the practice and across other services in Tameside and Glossop.
Patient participation refers to patients taking an active interest in their healthcare. Most PPGs operate within GP practices and their priorities are developed and agreed by the patients themselves in order to meet the needs of the practice population and to reflect the interests and energies of the participants themselves.
To celebrate PPG Awareness Week (10-14 June), Ashton Patient Neighbourhood will be hosting an event on the market place in Ashton-under-Lyne on Tuesday 11 June, from 10am-3pm.
The event will showcase the work of PPGs in Ashton as well as encouraging people to sign up to become a member of their local practice’s PPG. Health checks will also be taking place inside the market hall as well as a variety of stalls promoting the work of our local social, community and voluntary sector organisations.
Dr Ashwin Ramachandra, Co-Chair at NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group said: “This event is a great opportunity for local people to get more involved in their GP practice.
“We’re promoting the role and benefits of PPGs, to create more understanding of the value of true patient participation and also to promote the support available from National Association for Patient Participation (NAPP).”
